[JOJ 2026] En quête d'un premier podium olympique : Les 5 pépites sénégalaises prêtes à faire sensation !
Having never won a medal at the first four editions of the Youth Olympic Games, Senegal approaches the historic Dakar 2026 event with the firm intention of breaking its medal drought. Led by a rising and ambitious generation, the national delegation boasts established talents in fencing, beach wrestling, swimming, and taekwondo. From Tening Diallo to Naël Lamine Voisin, here's a closer look at five promising Senegalese athletes ready to thrill the home crowd.
Tening Diallo (Fencing)
She is one of the brightest prospects in Senegalese sport. At just 17 years old, Tening Diallo won the bronze medal at the African Senior Fencing Championships held a few months ago in Ivory Coast, in the sabre category. After this performance across all categories at the continental level, she now hopes to reach the pinnacle of world fencing among young athletes. This ambition is clear, as the Senegalese fencer is aiming for nothing less than Olympic gold at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Elisabeth Diatta (Beach Wrestling)
In the land of traditional wrestling, beach wrestling is generating immense excitement. In this discipline, athletes compete in a circular arena 7 meters in diameter, where the first to score 3 points (obtained by forcing their opponent out of bounds or pinning them to the ground) wins the match. While the rules differ from wrestling with or without strikes, Senegal's competitive spirit remains strong. Representing Senegal at the U17 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, Elisabeth Diatta achieved the impressive feat of finishing 4th in the world. She then went on to win a brilliant silver medal at the U17 African Championships.
Ibrahima Sarr (Beach Wrestling)
Just like Elisabeth Diatta, Ibrahima Sarr is one of the rising stars to watch closely in Diamniadio. Eliminated prematurely at the U17 World Championships in Baku, the young wrestler made a magnificent comeback by winning the gold medal for Senegal at the African Championships in the same age category—the only gold medal for the Senegalese delegation during this campaign. At home, in front of his supporters, he will try to repeat this feat on the sand.
Naël Lamine Voisin (Swimming)
The young Senegalese swimmer's ambition matches his talent. A gold medalist in the junior 100-meter breaststroke at the 2025 African Zone 2 Championships, the 17-year-old already dreams of competing against the world's best in the sport. But before setting his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Games, Naël Lamine Voisin has his sights set on the Dakar 2026 Olympic pool. Alongside five other athletes selected for the team, he will be the leader of Senegalese swimming.
Ibrahima Bèye (Taekwondo)
Originally from Louga, the young taekwondo athlete has had a particularly successful preparation. A gold medalist at the African Youth Games in December 2025, Ibrahima Bèye continued his winning streak by taking a silver medal at the China Open in August, followed by a bronze a month later at the Warsaw Open in the under-63 kg category. Despite a 9th place finish at the German Open on the eve of the Games, his recent international results confirm his ability to compete at the highest level.
