The Senegalese women's beach volleyball team, the Lionesses, made an ideal start to their adventure at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Facing Cape Verde on Saturday morning on Saly beach, the Senegalese representatives secured a fine victory, winning 2 sets to 0.
Led by Fama Diop, the young Senegalese volleyball players rose to the occasion in their first match of the competition. They defeated their Cape Verdean opponents to secure a first victory, allowing them to approach the rest of the tournament with confidence.
This victory sends a positive signal to the Lionesses, who have immediately demonstrated their ambitions in this Olympic competition being held on home soil. Playing in front of their home crowd, the Senegalese women will now be eager to confirm this strong start and maintain this momentum.
