JOJ Dakar 2026: La Chine et le Japon dominent, les Lioncelles trébuchent, le point de la journée
Swimming featured several closely contested finals. In the women's 100m breaststroke, Japan's Mana Ishikawa took the gold medal, ahead of South Africa's Chanel Veldsman, who won silver, and Man Wui Kui of Hong Kong, who completed the podium. In the men's 100m breaststroke, China's Xie Hichen claimed the title, followed by Japan's Iori Miyazaki and Lithuania's Domas Vilimas.
In the 200m backstroke, Argentina's Cecilia Mabel Dieleke shone in the women's event, winning the gold medal. In the men's event, New Zealand's Ariel Muchirahondo finished first, ahead of Iran's Parsa Shahshahani and Greece's Nikolaos Papatheodorou.
In women's rugby sevens, Kenya distinguished themselves by winning the final against Australia with a score of 17-12. The Kenyans thus secured the gold medal.
In women's futsal, it was a tougher day for the Lionesses. After their resounding 8-1 victory against Fiji in their opening match, the Senegalese team suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat against Venezuela at the Iba Mar Diop complex. This loss slows their momentum after a promising start.
In the awards table, 107 medals were awarded, including 33 gold. China and Japan jointly topped the rankings with seven medals each, four of which were gold.
This day of competition was thus marked by the performances of the young international swimmers, the success of the Kenyans and by the setback of the Lionesses, who will have to bounce back in their next outing.
