JOJ Dakar-2026 : « Soyez disciplinés », les conseils de Diomaye Faye à la délégation sénégalaise
Just days before the start of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (October 31-November 13), President Bassirou Diomaye Faye addressed the Senegalese athletes during the ceremony to present the national flag to the delegation. The Head of State emphasized essential values for sporting success, including discipline, teamwork, dedication, and solidarity.
“Be disciplined!” Bassirou Diomaye Faye urged the young athletes. For the President of the Republic, performance is not built solely on the competition field, but also through habits, adherence to instructions, and concentration throughout the entire preparation process.
“Discipline is forged away from the spotlight, at bedtime, by respecting your coaches’ instructions, by maintaining concentration until the very last move,” he emphasized. The head of state thus reminded everyone that talent alone is not enough to reach the top. “Talent opens doors, but know that it is discipline, and discipline alone, that allows you to walk through them,” he insisted.
The "Jom" and the "Fulla" as sources of determination
Beyond discipline, Bassirou Diomaye Faye urged the athletes to preserve "Jom" (a value associated with honor), dignity, and courage, regardless of the circumstances. He considers this quality essential when facing difficulties, especially when the opponent seems stronger or when fatigue threatens to undermine their efforts.
The President of the Republic also called on young athletes to draw upon "Fulla," a symbol of audacity and bravery, to approach competitions without inhibition. "Don't be afraid of any name or record, because on the starting line, no one has yet won," he declared.
Solidarity, a pillar of Team Senegal
The third focus of the presidential message concerns solidarity among the athletes. Coming from disciplines as diverse as wrestling, fencing, swimming, and breaking, the members of the delegation are called upon to overcome their differences to form a united team around a common goal. "From now on, you are one team, Team Senegal," Bassirou Diomaye Faye reminded them.
The head of state urged athletes to attend their teammates' competitions, to encourage them, and to offer their support. "The victory of one will be the pride of all, and the disappointment of one will be felt by all," he stated.
