JOJ Dakar 2026 : Un Sénégalais aux manettes artistiques de la cérémonie d'ouverture !
For the first time in history, Africa is hosting the Olympic Games, and Senegal has the honor of hosting them. Just hours before the opening ceremony scheduled for Friday, October 31st, at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the Organizing Committee for the Youth Olympic Games (COJOJ) is still keeping the identity of the event's organizer a secret.
However, when asked about the artistic direction, the director of the COJOJ ceremonies, Khady Niang, did not wish to reveal any names at this stage, a strategy of silence assumed until this evening.
According to our information, the process was deliberately handled internally. Unlike previous Olympiads where production was outsourced to an international company, the committee chose to define the artistic concept in-house in order, according to our source, to "tell our story" and ensure a "reappropriation of our African narrative." Furthermore, Khady Niang had stated that "the show will aim to highlight Senegalese identity and the cultural diversity of the African continent."
A true-blue Senegalese
The staging will be handled by Adama Diop, under the direction of Khady Niang. The show will bring together 11,000 participants, including 700 dancers, for a 90-minute performance.
While the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Youth Games (COJOJ) has not yet officially revealed the identity of the artistic director, a reliable source close to the organization tells us that Khalil Cissé has been chosen. This information has not been officially confirmed by COJOJ, which wishes to keep the announcement a surprise until 6:30 PM this evening.
Who is Khalil Cissé?
While his name may still be relatively unknown to the general public, his style is undeniable. Designer, Fashion Curator known as "Xalil" and event producer, Khalil Cissé has established himself as a leading figure in Senegalese elegance.
With his round architect's glasses, salt and pepper beard, and minimalist and sharp style, he is described by his peers as the embodiment of African elegance and a staunch defender of Made in Senegal, which he presents as a label of excellence encompassing any product made on Senegalese soil.

An expert in revisited traditional fabrics (wax, leppi, African costume), a designer seen on the red carpet as well as at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards, his profile would perfectly match the ambition of the COJOJ: to tell the story of Senegal to the world without falling into folklore.
He is also the initiator of the Jaba concept, a market dedicated to culture and fashion design, and of "Baalu Kër", a retro reunion evening that has become a cult classic.
