Olympique de Marseille announced in a statement on Tuesday the departure of Habib Beye, who had been their coach since February, which should allow Bruno Genesio to take over as Marseille coach.

"Olympique de Marseille announces the end of its collaboration with Habib Beye. The club thanks Habib Beye and sends him its best wishes for the future of his career," OM wrote in a brief statement.

Former player and captain of the club, Beye arrived at OM in the middle of February to replace Roberto De Zerbi, who had chosen to leave the club.

But he did not achieve the sporting objectives set by the Marseille club, which were a victory in the Coupe de France and qualification for the next Champions League. OM were eliminated in the Coupe de France quarter-finals by Toulouse and finished fifth in the league.

With OM, the former coach of Red Star and Rennes won six matches, with two draws and five defeats.

For several weeks, the coaching situation at OM had been at a standstill. The club's priority was to deal with the important deadlines awaiting them before the DNCG and UEFA's control body.

Last Friday, the DNCG imposed on OM a cap on its payroll and transfer fees (transfer expenses), as had already been the case in the summer of 2021 and the winter of 2023.

This sanction largely overlaps with the one imposed a few days earlier by UEFA, which, in addition to a fine of ten million euros, had imposed on OM a "restriction on the ability to register new players" for the next Europa League.

The announcement of the new coach is expected in the coming days. According to several sources within the club, it is likely to be Bruno Genesio, who left Lille at the end of last season.
