La BAL rénove quatre terrains de basketball au Sénégal
The Basketball Africa League (BAL), the professional league created by the NBA and FIBA, has announced the renovation of six courts in Africa, including four in Senegal. This initiative is part of NBA Africa's program, which plans to build or renovate 1,000 courts across the continent over the next ten years.
In Senegal, the sites in question are located in Saint-Louis, Joal, Dakar and Guédiawaye.
“These newly renovated courts demonstrate our commitment to investing in communities and making basketball more accessible to young people across Africa,” said Amadou Gallo Fall, President of the BAL. “Together with our partners, we are creating spaces where the next generation of African basketball players, fans, and changemakers can grow, connect, and thrive.”
The first court was inaugurated on September 30 at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, in order to offer students and residents a space suitable for playing basketball.
In Joal, on the Petite Côte, a newly renovated site will welcome the young people of this fishing community.
In Dakar, another basketball court was inaugurated yesterday in partnership with the City of Dakar. Located on the Atlantic coast, it is equipped with a new scoreboard and fencing. Following the inauguration, the final of the BAL City Run, a neighborhood basketball tournament bringing together 12 local teams, will take place.
On October 30th, Guédiawaye will host the first BAL4HER sports field in Africa. This project aims to develop sports participation among women and girls. The indoor complex will be able to accommodate basketball, volleyball, and handball activities. It will also include renovated locker rooms and spaces dedicated to workshops on leadership, health, and nutrition.
In Côte d'Ivoire, a renovated court at the Lac school complex in the Koumassi district of Abidjan is expected to host nearly 3,000 players per week, including 2,500 students. A basketball program for 300 girls aged 18 and under from eight schools is also planned. The site will host a youth competition every Saturday.
A second BAL4HER court is scheduled to open in December in Owerri, Nigeria. The project has the support of Chiney Ogwumike, two-time WNBA All-Star and BAL ambassador, and her organization, Queens of the Continent.
The six courts will benefit from improvements, including upgrades to the playing surfaces, hoops, and spectator areas. Some sites will also have renovated locker rooms, restrooms, and lighting.
Based in Dakar, the BAL brings together 12 African clubs and completed its sixth season in May 2026. The renovation of these courts is part of NBA Africa's efforts to develop sports infrastructure and expand access to basketball on the continent.

Mais il faut penser à Rufisque qui a toujours apporté aux basket surtout en mémoire aux deux jeunes basketteurs disparus récemment...
