Lamine Camara et Ismaila Sarr parmi les grands perdants du mercato d’été 2026
The 2026 summer transfer window has concluded in the major European leagues. While some players used this period to take their careers to the next level, others saw their plans to leave fall through in the final hours of the market. Among them, two Senegalese internationals stand out as major disappointments of this window: Ismaïla Sarr and Lamine Camara.
Lamine Camara's transfer to Chelsea falls through
In Monaco, Lamine Camara believed his future lay in the Premier League. The Senegalese midfielder was indeed on Chelsea's radar, who wanted to strengthen their midfield and were anticipating Enzo Fernandez's departure to Manchester City.
Discussions had progressed to the point where there was genuine hope surrounding the transfer. Camara had agreed to join the Blues, while the London club believed they could finalize the deal before the transfer window closed.
But the situation took a dramatic turn in the final hours. Monaco, faced with the Folarin Balogun situation and the possibility of his departure to Everton, decided to reconsider its position regarding Camara. The transfer to Chelsea therefore fell through.
This is a particularly frustrating situation for the young Senegalese player, who seemed close to discovering a new league and taking a significant step forward in his career. Instead, he remains in Monaco with the feeling of a missed opportunity.
This about-face also angered Chelsea, who were unhappy with how the matter was handled. For Camara, it's now time to put this behind him and focus on Monaco's season, aiming to continue increasing his value before a potential new bid in the next transfer window.
Ismaïla Sarr, Liverpool eludes him once again
The case of Ismaïla Sarr also reveals the harsh realities of the transfer market. The Senegalese striker for Crystal Palace wanted to use the summer to join a bigger club. His preferred option was Liverpool. The Reds expressed interest in the player, and Sarr reportedly pushed hard to make the move happen.
But despite his desire to join Sadio Mané's former club, no deal was finalized. The former Watford and Olympique de Marseille player will therefore continue his adventure with Crystal Palace.
This outcome may leave a bitter taste for the Senegalese, especially after having expressed interest in this new challenge.
At 28, Ismaïla Sarr remains an experienced player capable of competing at the highest level. His profile, based on speed, directness, and his ability to play on the wings, continues to be valued in the European market. But a move to Liverpool will not happen this summer.
