Le Portugal hallucine après les justifications de Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo's statement explaining his departure from the national team training camp has created a heated debate in Portugal.
A very long statement, and justifications that have sparked reactions in Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his side of the story regarding his abrupt departure from the national team last week during the international break. He hasn't gotten over starting on the bench against Norway, without getting any playing time, just days after playing a little over an hour against Wales. Above all, in his statement, the star criticizes Jorge Jesus, his coach, for making him warm up for nothing. A crime of lèse-majesté, according to him.
“He told me I had to be ready because I would only play 30 minutes. The rest is history. I warmed up from halftime, watched the minutes tick by, and wasn’t called upon to play. The coach hadn’t kept his promise,” he explained. The meeting between the two men, accompanied by Simão Coutinho, Al-Nassr’s sporting director and a trusted confidant of the player, was intended to resolve the tense situation. According to CR7, the plan included a public apology from the national team coach acknowledging his mistake.
"Let them meet, talk, and find a solution."
As you've probably guessed, none of that happened, and tonight the country is reacting. "It's better to find a way to establish peace than to continue the war. It makes no sense," worries António Simões, third in the 1966 World Cup, in A Bola. "We're asking for common sense. For tolerance. We all have differences. If Cristiano wants to settle this, let's give him that chance. I'm not here to defend Cristiano, Jesus, or anyone else; I'm defending common sense. Let them meet, talk, and find a solution. That would be fantastic. I really hope it happens."
He continued, expressing his hope that everyone would reconcile for the common good. "This player has had a remarkable career. We need to find a way to acknowledge that he's not self-centered. It's not just about the goal; it's about the game. These values must be an integral part of his personality. If he understands this, we'll give him a great send-off. Does he even want to play?" the former international wondered, while still questioning his current form. "We'll see; it's up to the coach to decide whether he's physically fit or not."
Ronaldo is not about to return to the national team
This reconciliation seems impossible for the moment. "Ronaldo still has a long way to go in Portuguese football before he can bury the hatchet with the federation," reveals Bernardo Ribeiro, editor-in-chief of Record. This would confirm the information reported by CNN Portugal earlier in the day. As things stand, the Al-Nassr striker will not be able to return to the Seleção under Jorge Jesus, especially since he risks a lengthy suspension of approximately six months for leaving the national team training camp.
