Les supporters argentins ont encore chambré les Anglais au jubilé de Lionel Messi à Buenos Aires
It's an open secret. Lionel Messi bid farewell to the Argentine national team during a gala match against Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The match went in favor of the home team (3-0).
At the end of the game, Lionel Messi took the microphone to address the fans.
"The match against England was very demanding for us, both physically and mentally."
After mentioning his father, who passed away after the World Cup, La Pulga reflected on the tournament which ended with the Albiceleste's defeat against the Spanish Roja.
“At the last World Cup, we came very close, and the truth is that nothing strange happened in the final, contrary to what some claim. The match against England was very trying for us, physically and mentally; it was a colossal effort. We won by a hair,” said Lionel Messi.
"You see, you see, whoever doesn't jump is an Englishman!"
Meanwhile, the supporters began chanting: "You see, you see, whoever doesn't jump is English!"
It must be said that this refrain is regularly sung by Albiceleste supporters to taunt the English. Its origin dates back to the beginning of the Falklands War in the spring of 1982. It has a strong political connotation.
