Ligue 1: Paris arrache le nul grâce à un doublé de Ferran Torres, Lille solide
Defending champions Paris SG gave themselves a scare but snatched a draw thanks to their Spanish world champion Ferran Torres in Rennes (2-2), Sunday evening during the first day of Ligue 1, while Lille won in Angers (2-0).
Although the Parisians were supposed to start their season at the Parc des Princes, the heatwave that hit Europe this summer decided otherwise: due to a lack of a pitch in good condition, it was at Roazhon Park of Stade Rennais that the first match of PSG was finally moved.
Trailing 2-0 and struggling against Rennes' counter-attacks, the Parisians long believed they were about to experience another disappointment against their nemesis Rennes, the team that has beaten them the most in Ligue 1 since QSI took over the club.
Franck Haise's men first opened the scoring thanks to a superb strike from Sebastian Szymanski (9th), which beat Matveï Safonov with the help of the post.
Esteban Lepaul, top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 21 goals, doubled the score (38th minute), just after a miss by Ousmane Dembélé, reflecting the Parisians' dominance in possession but their clumsiness.

To reverse the trend, Luis Enrique relied on his bench by taking off Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at half-time, replacing them with Spanish world champion Ferran Torres and Belgian Mika Godts, two of the summer signings.
These changes paid off after the introduction of another world champion at the hour mark: Fabien Ruiz, who found Torres with a first long pass (71st minute), before delivering a perfect cross headed in by the Roja striker (82nd minute), who scored the winning goal in the final of the 2026 World Cup.
Having lost to Lens (1-0) in the Champions Trophy last week, PSG avoided a second consecutive defeat, before learning on Thursday who their opponents will be in the Champions League, of which they are the two-time defending champions.
Paris will travel next week in the league to Lille, who also qualified for the Champions League after finishing 3rd last year, and who made a successful debut under Davide Ancelotti against Angers (2-0).
Impressive in the first half, with two goals from the evergreen Giroud (11th) and Thiago Santos (31st), LOSC played without their Moroccan international midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, whose departure for Manchester City for a record amount of 100 million euros is imminent.
Lille then showed themselves to be solid against Stéphane Gilli's SCO, enterprising but too ineffective in the last 30 meters to beat the vigilance of Lille's goalkeeper Berke Ozer.
On the road in Le Havre, Monaco secured a narrow victory (1-0), thanks to a header from Eric Dier off a corner from Nazinho (14th minute).
Le Havre pushed hard to equalize, but Monaco held on to the score, securing a first Ligue 1 victory for their Brazilian coach Filipe Luis, former Flamengo coach, who is experiencing his first time managing a team in Europe.
