Ligue des champions : Le PSG démystifie le Barça, Liverpool renverse Villarreal de Pape Guèye
The third round of Champions League matches, which began on Tuesday, concluded on Wednesday with several spectacular encounters. The clash between Paris Saint-Germain, the two-time defending champions, and FC Barcelona lived up to all expectations, while Liverpool overturned Pape Gueye's Villarreal in a match full of twists and turns.
The match between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona was marred by several injuries, notably those of Ousmane Dembélé and Dani Olmo early on. Despite these setbacks, PSG opened the scoring through Désiré Doué in the 38th minute.
After the break, Barça managed to equalize through their young defender Xavi Espart (55th minute). Four minutes later, the Parisian club were further weakened by the injuries to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos.
Despite these difficulties, PSG regained the lead thanks to a fine header from Lucas Hernandez in the 72nd minute. But the Catalans responded quickly, with Lamine Yamal leveling the score in the 79th minute.
As has often been the case in recent seasons, Paris Saint-Germain ultimately prevailed, managing the final minutes more effectively. In the 81st minute, Vitinha restored his team's lead with an unstoppable strike, before Fabian Ruiz sealed the Parisian victory by scoring the fourth goal in the 86th minute.
With this spectacular victory (4-2), PSG puts an end to Barça's winning streak since the start of the season and records a third victory in as many Champions League matches.
Manchester City cruise, Liverpool overturn Villarreal
At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City, with Iliman Ndiaye remaining on the bench, put on a real show of force against AEK Athens (5-1). In the absence of Erling Haaland, who also started on the bench, Phil Foden stepped up as the leader, scoring a hat-trick in the 34th, 65th, and 76th minutes.
Meanwhile, Villarreal, with Pape Gueye in the starting lineup, endured a frustrating evening at Anfield. Despite leading by two goals after 29 minutes, the Spanish side ultimately succumbed to Liverpool's determination, who secured a spectacular 4-3 victory.
At home, AS Roma gave Slovan Bratislava no chance, sweeping them aside with a resounding 4-0 victory. Napoli, for their part, snatched a hard-fought win against the combative Bodø/Glimt team (4-3).
At the Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto suffered a surprise home defeat against PSV Eindhoven (0-1). Borussia Dortmund secured a victory in Azerbaijan against Sabah FC (2-1), while Atlético de Madrid earned a valuable point away to Stuttgart (1-1).
Finally, in Istanbul, Fenerbahçe missed an opportunity to win against Slavia Prague. The two teams drew 2-2.
