Ligue des champions : Paris déroule, Liverpool et Arsenal assurent
The first matchday of the Champions League, which began on Tuesday, concluded on Wednesday. Following FC Barcelona's impressive 5-1 victory over Feyenoord in the afternoon, the reigning two-time European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, were under intense scrutiny. And Luis Enrique's men didn't hold back, thrashing Yaya Touré's Slovan Bratislava 6-1.
Ferran Torres was the architect of PSG's victory, scoring a hat-trick (31st, 47th and 57th minutes). Ousmane Dembélé also shone with a brace (17th and 23rd minutes), while Fabian Ruiz scored PSG's sixth goal.
With this resounding victory, PSG is already showing its ambitions in this competition.
In the evening's clash, Liverpool overturned Atlético Madrid's lead. The Reds, quickly falling behind after Marcos Llorente's opening goal (17th minute), responded thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (40th minute) and Alexis Mac Allister (50th minute). A good start for Liverpool, who spent a fortune this summer to strengthen their squad.
Galatasaray, with Ismaïl Jakobs in the lineup, lost to Sporting Lisbon (3-1). The Senegalese left-back had a difficult evening, conceding a penalty in the 54th minute, allowing the Portuguese side to take the lead.
Last season's runners-up, Arsenal, have also made a strong start to their European campaign. The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory in Italy against Napoli, thanks to a goal from Martin Ødegaard in the 75th minute.
In Germany, Stuttgart did what was necessary against the minnows Viking Stavanger (3-1).
At the end of this first day, PSG occupies first place thanks to its large victory against Slovan Bratislava (6-1).
