Ligue des Nations : l’Espagne affiche sa maîtrise à Wembley face à l’Angleterre

More than two months after winning the 2026 World Cup, Spain made their Nations League debut this Saturday at Wembley against England. A high-quality match ended in a Spanish victory (2-3).

In this highly anticipated clash, the spectators certainly got their money's worth. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the second minute. The Barcelona prodigy stole the ball from Marc Guehi before slotting it past Trafford with a side-footed finish. With this early goal, the match was off to a flying start.

Stung by this setback, the English were quick to respond. On a counter-attack, Anthony Gordon, perfectly set up by Bellingham, equalized with a fine strike in the 36th minute. Highly effective in transition, the Three Lions then took the lead. From a Nico O'Reilly cross, Harry Kane headed home from close range. The ball, slightly deflected by Cucurella, beat Unai Simón (40th minute).

At halftime, England are therefore leading (2-1).

At the start of the second half, Harry Kane had the opportunity to give his team a two-goal lead, but the English striker missed his penalty, sending the ball onto the crossbar (54th minute).

Gradually regaining control of the game, Spain managed to equalize in the 60th minute following an action initiated by Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.

Dominating the final twenty minutes, La Roja finally snatched the three points thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal. Having come on for Ferran Torres, the Real Sociedad striker scored Spain's third goal in the 74th minute, assisted by a perfect pass from Álex Baena.

With this prestigious victory at Wembley, Spain confirms its status as world champion and makes a perfect start to its Nations League campaign.

Du très très haut niveau ! Avec des certitudes sur le niveau de maitrise technique et tactique de l'Espagne et la faiblesse psychologique de l'Angleterre. Autre certitude : pas demain la veille qu'une équipe africaine gagnera la coupe du monde.
