Maroc : Sofyan Amrabat ne veut plus jouer sous les ordres de Mohamed Ouahbi !
A bombshell has dropped for the Atlas Lions. Sofyan Amrabat has announced that he no longer wishes to continue his adventure with the Moroccan national team as long as Mohamed Ouahbi remains the coach.
A key player for the Moroccan national team in recent years and a major contributor to the historic run at the 2022 World Cup, the 30-year-old Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, with 78 caps, has officially announced his decision in a message posted on Instagram.
"This decision was very difficult to make, but I do not feel capable of continuing to represent the national team under the current coach," explained Amrabat, who nevertheless chose not to reveal the precise reasons for his choice.
"Out of respect for the national team and for all those involved, I prefer to keep the reasons behind this decision private," he added.
This announcement comes after the 2026 World Cup, during which the Moroccan midfielder saw his playing time considerably reduced. Accustomed to playing an important role with the Atlas Lions, Amrabat had to settle for a substitute role.
His decision is therefore a serious blow to the Moroccan national team, which may have to manage without one of its most experienced players in upcoming international matches. It remains to be seen whether this decision is final or if a potential change in leadership at the helm of the Atlas Lions could allow for a resumption of dialogue.
