Mercato : Manchester City s’offre Elliot Anderson pour une somme colossale
Manchester City pulled off one of the biggest coups of the summer transfer window by signing Elliot Anderson. The 23-year-old England international midfielder leaves Nottingham Forest for an estimated €150 million, making it the fourth-largest transfer in football history and the second-most expensive ever recorded in the Premier League.
Having received little media attention until now, Anderson has now entered a new dimension. His transfer not only propels him into the ranks of the most expensive players in the world, but also confirms the ambitions of the Citizens, ready to invest heavily to strengthen their midfield.
In an official statement, Manchester City confirmed they had reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the player's transfer: "Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Elliot Anderson. The player, currently with the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, has successfully completed his medical in Kansas. The final administrative formalities will be completed upon his return to England. The club wishes him the best of luck for the future with the Three Lions and looks forward to welcoming him to Manchester soon."
Taking advantage of a break from the England national team, Anderson traveled to the United States to undergo his medical examination before rejoining his teammates. This makes him, at this stage of the transfer window, the most expensive signing of the summer.
A meteoric rise
While his transfer fee is impressive, Elliot Anderson's career at the highest level is still relatively recent. An England international 11 times, he established himself as a regular starter under Thomas Tuchel during this World Cup.
Having come through the Newcastle academy, he truly revealed his potential at Nottingham Forest. He has around 150 professional appearances to his name, but his experience on the European stage remains limited, with only two Champions League appearances.
Last season, despite Nottingham Forest's difficult campaign that saw them finish 16th in the league, Anderson proved indispensable. In 38 appearances, he scored four goals and provided four assists, demonstrating remarkable consistency in midfield.
His qualities as a box-to-box midfielder, capable of excelling in both defensive and offensive roles, had attracted several top English clubs. Manchester United were closely monitoring his progress, while Newcastle were hoping for the return of their former player, sold two years ago for around €40 million to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Ultimately, Manchester City won the battle. After several offers were rejected, the Manchester club's management accepted Nottingham Forest's financial demands to complete a historic deal.
With this spectacular transfer, Elliot Anderson's status changes dramatically. Now expected to be one of Manchester City's new leading figures, the young England international will have to justify this colossal investment and prove that he can establish himself among the best midfielders in world football.
