Mondial 2026 : La Norvège corrige l’Irak et prend les commandes du groupe I
Norway made a perfect start to their 2026 World Cup campaign with a resounding victory over Iraq (4-1) on the first day of Group I.
The Scandinavians opened the scoring thanks to their star striker Erling Haaland in the 29th minute. But Iraq's response was immediate, with Hussein equalizing in the 39th minute.
Before the break, Haaland restored his team's lead in the 43rd minute, capitalizing on a huge error by the Iraqi goalkeeper. Dominant throughout, Norway then extended their lead thanks to Leo Østigård, who scored the third goal in the 76th minute.
In added time (90+6), Hussein unfortunately scored an own goal, giving the Norwegians a fourth goal and definitively sealing Norway's victory.
Senegal's next opponent, Norway, has taken sole possession of first place in Group I, ahead of France, who defeated Senegal 3-1 earlier in the day. The Lions now face a crucial match against Norway in the second round of fixtures.
