Mondial 2026 : Le Brésil tenu en échec par le Maroc
Morocco achieved a great performance by holding Brazil to a draw (1-1) on Saturday, during the first day of Group C of the 2026 World Cup, played in the United States.
Back on American soil, where they had won their fourth world title in 1994, Brazil harbored the ambition of conquering a sixth star. Facing them was a strong Moroccan team, runners-up in the African Cup of Nations and semi-finalists in the last World Cup.
The match began at a high tempo, with an enterprising Morocco applying a high press and disrupting Brazil's build-up play. This dominance was finally rewarded in the 21st minute when Abde Ezzalzouli Saibari opened the scoring, capitalizing on the Atlas Lions' strong start.
But the Brazilians reacted quickly. In the 32nd minute, Vinícius Júnior leveled the score with a superb individual effort, allowing the Seleção to get back into the game before halftime.
After the break, Carlo Ancelotti's tactical changes and reorganization allowed Brazil to gradually take control of the game. With more possession, the South Americans dominated proceedings against a more cautious and patient Moroccan side. Despite several chances for both teams, neither side could find a breakthrough.
After a balanced and hard-fought match, Morocco and Brazil drew (1-1), a result that leaves all options open in Group C.
