Mondial 2026 : Le Sénégal chute devant la France
Twenty-four years after Senegal's historic victory against France (1-0) in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup, Les Bleus took their revenge by winning 3-1 this Tuesday in their first match of Group I of the 2026 World Cup.
The Lions of Teranga will rue their missed opportunities after an encouraging first half. Jackson hit the post, while Ismaïla Sarr missed a golden chance just before the break. After the restart, France looked more threatening, with two clear chances saved by an excellent Édouard Mendy.
The French pressure finally paid off in the 66th minute. A perfectly weighted through ball from Michael Olise found Kylian Mbappé, who beat Édouard Mendy to open the scoring. Les Bleus then doubled their lead in the 82nd minute thanks to Bradley Barcola, who was played through behind the Senegalese defense.
In stoppage time, Ibrahima Mbaye gave the Lions hope by reducing the deficit (90+5). But moments later, Kylian Mbappé scored twice (90+6) to definitively seal the French victory.
Thanks to this victory, France makes an ideal start in Group I, while Senegal will have to react in their next match.
