Mondial 2026 : Le tacle hilarant de Lula sur Neymar en plein tournoi !
Brazilian President Lula said on Friday that Neymar was "working remotely" at the World Cup, where he has not yet played as he recovers from a calf injury.
"Neymar? He doesn't even play!" said Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, when a young boy mentioned the name of the former Paris SG and FC Barcelona striker.
"Neymar is the first player in the world called up (to the national team) to work remotely," added the head of state during a ceremony at a hospital in Belo Horizonte (southeast).
The 34-year-old player will miss Friday's game against Haiti in Philadelphia. He has remained at the Brazilian team's training camp in New Jersey.
During the disappointing start of the five-time world champions, on June 13 against Morocco (1-1), he was not on the match sheet but had followed the match with his teammates on the substitutes' bench.
The Seleção's all-time leading scorer (79 goals) trained on Wednesday for the first time on the field with his teammates, after suffering a muscle injury to his right calf a month ago with his club Santos.
“Ney” has not worn the Brazil jersey since October 2023, when he suffered a serious knee injury.
On Wednesday, Lula had already joked about the World Cup, stating that he thought he would "recruit" Argentine star Lionel Messi to improve Brazil's attacking output.
