Mondial 2026 : Modric atteint sa 200e sélection, le staff croate lui rend hommage
Luka Modric wrote a new page in his legendary career on Tuesday evening during the match between Croatia and Panama, counting towards the second day of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Starting and wearing the captain's armband, the 40-year-old midfielder honored his 200th cap for Croatia.
On this occasion, the Croatian national team staff celebrated this exceptional achievement by paying tribute to their playmaker, who has become a true icon of Croatian football. Modric thus joins an extremely select group of players who have reached the symbolic milestone of 200 international caps.
Before him, only two players had achieved such a feat: the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, record holder with 230 caps, and the Argentinian Lionel Messi, who has 201.
This 200th cap also comes during the Croatian veteran's 21st World Cup match. According to Opta statistics, since his debut in the tournament in 2006, only Cristiano Ronaldo (23 matches) and Lionel Messi (27) have participated in more World Cup finals matches.
This new distinction further confirms Luka Modric's place among the greatest legends in the history of world football.
