Mondial 2026 : Sous l’effet de la drogue, rebelote !
The World Cup is here. Or so it seems.
Because in Senegal, the event went almost unnoticed. No flags flooded the streets, no endless debates about team lineups. In short, no collective fervor. Nothing. The people had more pressing concerns than counting Argentina's yellow cards or England's distances. It must be said that the Senegalese are still reeling from the last dose. The Africa Cup of Nations victory a few months ago continues to have an effect. That second star has become our national drug, administered at regular intervals to soothe the frustrations of daily life. Meanwhile, the end of the month has remained longer than the months themselves, and bills have retained their remarkable ability to pile up, waiting to be paid.
So, this World Cup? We'll probably watch it. Like watching a wedding we weren't invited to, with curiosity, sometimes with pleasure, but without any particular emotion. Senegal has grown up. Or perhaps it has simply grown tired. One thing is certain: the Lions remain beloved. But they have ceased to be a solution. And that is perhaps the greatest defeat of modern football, because even sporting achievements can no longer permanently distract a nation from its own realities.
