Navétanes in Thiès: in the face of violence, a call for peace and fair play

Navétanes à Thiès : face aux violences, un appel à la paix et au fair-play

The violence that regularly marred the Navétanes tournaments in Thiès is causing increasing concern among those involved in sports and the general public. In Médina Fall, a neighborhood often associated with incidents that tarnish these popular competitions, the focus is now on raising awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility.

It was in this context that political leader Moussa Thiombane met with the local sports and cultural associations (ASC). This initiative aimed to prevent unrest and encourage young people to reject violence.

Speaking to the Navétanes players, Moussa Thiombane delivered a clear message. For him, sporting competitions should not become a battleground for young people.

"I send a message of peace and fair play to the young people of the commune of Thiès-Nord, particularly those of the district of Médina Fall," he said.

For the political leader, the Navétanes (local football leagues) must return to their original purpose: bringing young people together, strengthening ties between neighborhoods, and fostering social cohesion. He emphasizes that sporting rivalries cannot justify fights, clashes, or tensions between supporters and members of the various sports and cultural associations (ASC).

"They must understand that the Navétanes are not for violence. It is a way to strengthen social cohesion and fraternity between neighborhoods," he insisted.

Moussa Thiombane is calling on the leaders of the ASCs (Sports and Cultural Associations), the players, the supporters, and all young people to act responsibly. He urges them, in particular, to prioritize dialogue, respect for opponents, and fair play in order to prevent sporting events from degenerating into clashes. "We encourage the ASCs to cultivate this spirit of peace and social cohesion," he emphasized.
