Participation à la cérémonie du Ballon d’Or 2026 : Le Real Madrid change de stratégie
After two editions marked by its absence, Real Madrid is preparing to return to the Ballon d'Or ceremony. According to "L'Équipe", the Spanish club will be represented this Monday, October 26, in London, the day after El Clásico against FC Barcelona.
Relations between Real Madrid and the organizers of the prestigious trophy deteriorated sharply in 2024 after Rodri was awarded the Ballon d'Or ahead of Vinicius Junior. Unhappy with the result, the Merengue club decided to boycott the ceremony. The following year, their presence was equally limited, with only Caroline Weir representing Real Madrid.
For the 2026 edition, Real Madrid seems to have chosen to turn the page. Several players are expected to travel to the English capital, as the club has four contenders for the men's Ballon d'Or: Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Marc Cucurella.
Other Madrid representatives are also in contention in various categories. Thibaut Courtois is among the candidates for the best goalkeeper award, while Yan Diomandé is nominated in the young talent category. On the women's side, Felicia Schröder is also in the running for the award recognizing the best young player.
This announced participation thus marks a change of position for Real Madrid, which intends to regain its place at one of the major events in world football.
