Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo's mother devastated by her son's departure

Cristiano Ronaldo's (41 years old, 234 caps and 146 goals) tumultuous departure from the Portuguese national team camp deeply affected his mother, Dolores Aveiro. While the Al-Nassr striker openly criticized the attitude of his coach, Jorge Jesus, she didn't hide her emotion in an interview with TV7 Dias. She particularly regrets that her son wasn't able to end his time with the Seleção under more peaceful circumstances.

Visibly affected by the situation, Dolores Aveiro admitted she had a hard time accepting the news. In her view, Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to leave the Portuguese national team under more favorable circumstances, considering everything he had accomplished while wearing the national jersey.

“I’m sad, that’s normal. It was a shock. My son could have left through the front door and instead, he left through the back door. But it doesn’t matter, God will take care of it… I cried a little. It’s also good to let go. Now we have to move forward,” she confided.

Despite her grief, the Portuguese star's mother is now looking to the future. She also revealed that she spoke with her son on the phone after the incident. During their conversation, Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly assured her that he would explain further once those involved were together.

“He told me, ‘Mom, don’t worry, I’ll tell the truth when we’re all together.’ I replied, ‘Okay, son, turn the page.’ I told him to take it easy, but that’s what he decided to do,” Dolores Aveiro recounted.

While this affair deeply affected his mother, she now seems ready to accept her son's choice. She hopes, however, that the circumstances surrounding this episode will calm down and that Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to continue his career with greater peace of mind.
