Samuel Eto’o : "Je voterai pour Gianni Infantino"
Samuel Eto'o has not changed his stance. His support for Infantino remains unwavering, despite the criticism leveled against the FIFA president. "If I remain president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, I will vote for him because of everything he has contributed to African football. (...) I will lobby my fellow presidents so that, for once, all 54 presidents of the Confederation of African Football vote in favor of Gianni," Eto'o stated in an interview with France 24.
According to him, Infantino is the FIFA president who has contributed the most to Africa. Samuel Eto'o gives the example of the Fecafoot headquarters, which he attributes to FIFA's assistance.
To justify his position, the Cameroonian star argues that African federations do not face the same challenges as those in Europe or South America. According to him, UEFA defends its interests; it is also up to CAF to defend its own. And CAF's interests lie with Infantino.
"Our budgets are limited, and we are expected to perform as well as these major footballing nations. I think that, for this reason alone, you will agree with me that we cannot approach this subject from the same perspective."
Eto'o, who hasn't always agreed with Infantino, has made this clear in the past. Today, he demands that his positions be respected, whether they are in favor of or against the FIFA president.
