Sénégal -Belgique : "Ça fait mal", les premiers mots de Pape Thiaw
Eliminated in the round of 32 by Belgium, Pape Thiaw did not hide his disappointment after the match. The Lions' coach, however, made a point of praising his players' commitment.
"We're out, it hurts, that's for sure. We have to congratulate the team who gave everything. Unfortunately, we weren't able to manage our 2-0 lead. When they came back to equalize, it wasn't easy anymore."
When questioned about refereeing decisions, particularly penalties, the Senegalese coach preferred to avoid any controversy.
"Everyone can have their own interpretation of penalties. I don't want to get into that debate. We have to congratulate this Belgian team who managed to beat us. For us, the adventure ends here."
When questioned about his in-game substitutions, Pape Thiaw justified them by the physical condition of some of his players.
“We had players who were tired and couldn’t contribute as much anymore. So we were forced to make changes. When you lose, you can always question your choices. Yet, we had the advantage. Today, we have to accept the result. That’s football.”
