Sénégal-Soudan : Le stade Léopold Sédar Senghor se prépare pour le retour des Lions à Dakar
Senegal is expected to return to its Dakar public when it hosts Sudan on November 12, as part of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). To ensure the best possible conditions for this match, the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium is currently closed to allow for the renovation of its pitch.
This closure, effective since October 18 according to wiwsport, came the day after the match between Teungueth FC and the Cameroonian club Colombe Sportive du Sud, a CAF Champions League second preliminary round fixture. The work undertaken aims to improve the quality of the playing surface before the arrival of Patrick Vieira's men for this continental competition.
The choice of Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium is also explained by the temporary unavailability of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, which is being used for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), scheduled from October 31 to November 13. This situation necessitates an adjustment to the arrangements for hosting the national team's matches.
Senegal had already faced a similar constraint during the previous international break, which saw the order of matches against Mozambique reversed. Originally scheduled for Dakar, the first leg was ultimately played in Maputo, while the return leg is scheduled to take place in Senegal.
The unavailability of the Abdoulaye Wade stadium and the conditions of the pitch at the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium had weighed heavily in this decision.
