Champions League draw: Assane Diao and Pape Gueye learn their opponents

The draw for the 2026-2027 Champions League took place this Thursday in Monaco. For their first campaign in the prestigious European competition, Assane Diao and Como FC will face a particularly challenging group stage. Meanwhile, Pape Gueye and Villarreal also drew a busy schedule.

Having qualified for the Champions League for the first time in its history, Como FC was placed against several renowned opponents.

The Italian club will notably host Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions, as well as Manchester United. Assane Diao's teammates will also travel to FC Barcelona's stadium for what promises to be a particularly spectacular match.

Como will also face Real Betis, RC Lens (featuring Abdallah Sima), RB Leipzig, and Feyenoord Rotterdam. It's a demanding schedule for the Lombardy side, who will be looking to cause an upset in their first ever European campaign.

A tough draw for Pape Gueye and Villarreal

Pape Gueye was not spared by the draw either. Villarreal will have to face several heavyweights of European football, including Paris Saint-Germain, the two-time defending champions, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Napoli.

The Yellow Submarine will also face Fenerbahçe, Sabah and Slavia Prague.

At home, Villarreal will host PSG, Manchester United, Napoli, and Sabah. Away matches look just as challenging as Pape Gueye and his teammates will face Dortmund, Liverpool, Ismail Jakobs' Galatasaray, and Slavia Prague.

With these prestigious matches, Assane Diao and Pape Gueye will therefore have the opportunity to compete against several of the best European teams and to shine on the biggest continental stage.
