« Tout n'a pas été parfait » : La réaction sans détour de Patrick Vieira après le succès poussif contre l'Éthiopie
Scoring on his debut for the Lions, Ibrahima Mbaye impressed against Ethiopia. After Senegal's 1-0 victory, Patrick Vieira highlighted the young player's versatility and attacking qualities, while acknowledging that the team's overall performance still needs improvement.
In his first start under Vieira, Ibrahima Mbaye wasted no time making his mark. His goal gave Senegal the lead and ultimately secured all three points. A performance that certainly impressed the coach.
“Ibrahima Mbaye is a versatile player. He is a player I find very interesting, who is also capable of playing centrally due to his speed of execution. He manages to eliminate the opponent quite easily,” explained the coach.
Vieira, however, remains measured. For him, this first outing is primarily a basis for work: "It's true that it's a first and that there are things to improve. Everything wasn't perfect, but it gives us an option," he acknowledged.
Content that can still be improved
Beyond the points tally, the coach highlighted several shortcomings in the Lions' performance. Ball movement, in particular, was hampered by the poor condition of the pitch.
“When we had the ball, we could have done better. It’s an area for improvement, but it was very complicated with the state of the pitch,” Vieira explained.
Under these conditions, the coach believes that his team should have favoured a more direct style of play to put the Ethiopian defence in difficulty.
“We could have been even more dangerous by playing a bit more directly, because the pitch didn’t allow us to combine between the lines or find our players in those spaces,” he analyzed.
Vieira demands more offensive aggression
The coach also lamented the lack of efficiency in certain attacking situations. The Lions had opportunities, particularly in one-on-one situations, but failed to capitalize on them.
Despite these adjustments to be made, Patrick Vieira prefers to focus on the adaptability of his men.
“When we’re not having a great day in terms of possession, we need to show other qualities. And we showed those other virtues today,” he concluded.

Pour preuve toutes les compétitions de marathon, courses longue distance aux JOs ce sont les éthiopiens qui gagnent car leur métabolisme s'est plus adapté a de longs efforts a une hauteur où l'on manque d'oxygène
