Violences dans les Navétanes : Le maire de Thiès-Nord appelle les jeunes au fair-play
In Thiès, the Navétanes (local football tournaments) hold an important place in the city's sporting and social life. However, in recent years, the competitions have been regularly marred by scenes of violence and acts of vandalism, to the point of prompting the administrative authorities to take measures to suspend them.
Faced with this situation, the mayor of Thiès-Nord, Mouhamadou Diakhaté, appealed to young people and sports and cultural associations (ASC). He urged them to banish violence from the playing fields and to make sport a true factor of unity and social cohesion.
“Sport should unite, not divide. Sport allows us to have good physical and mental health. It should not be a source of violence. We must practice it in fair play. We want competitions without violence, which will allow us to preserve peace and social cohesion in our community,” said the mayor.
Mouhamadou Diakhaté was speaking at the ceremony for the awarding of subsidies to the ASC and sports organizations of the municipality of Thiès-Nord, organized by the town hall.
The mayor invites the actors of the Navétanes to prioritize respect, fair play and dialogue, in order to preserve social relations between the different ASCs and to make sporting competitions a space of fraternity rather than a source of tension.
