Tourisme : Les acteurs de Saly sollicitent une rencontre avec leur ministre
In the midst of the low tourist season, tourism professionals in Saly are appealing to the new Minister of Tourism to strengthen dialogue with local stakeholders. Gathered for an event aimed at revitalizing the seaside resort, they believe that the sector's recovery will depend first and foremost on listening more closely to the concerns of operators and receiving stronger support from the government.
In Saly, these stakeholders want to be heard. Taking advantage of an event organized around motorcycles to attract more visitors during the low season, they called on the new Minister of Tourism to make dialogue with professionals a priority.
For Boly Guèye, president of the Compact Yaatal value chain, the sector is going through a particularly difficult period and requires greater involvement from the authorities. “The sector is very sick. We are simply asking the minister to listen to the stakeholders. The administration is there to provide support, but it is the people on the ground who do the work. Without them, the right decisions cannot be made,” he said.
According to him, the directives issued by the President of the Republic, urging the administration to engage more closely with the people, must now be translated into action. "We want the Minister to come to the stakeholders to listen to their concerns and develop solutions with them," Boly Guèye emphasized.
Beyond this appeal, professionals are multiplying their initiatives to maintain the attractiveness of the seaside resort. During the off-season, Compact Yaatal brought together motorcycle enthusiasts and rally champions to liven up Saly and encourage Senegalese people to discover national tourist destinations.
For Boly Guèye, this strategy is part of a desire to revive domestic tourism. "We are in the low season in Saly. We need to encourage Senegalese people to take ownership of the tourism sector. That's why we regularly organize events in the various tourist areas in order to boost Senegal as a destination," he explained.
The president of Compact Yaatal also believes that public authorities must pay particular attention to their communication. "Tourism requires a lot of promotion. Poor communication can already scare visitors away. We ask the authorities to adopt a responsible approach in order to preserve this sector that supports millions of people," he warned.
With the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) just a few months away, operators also see this event as a major opportunity for the local economy. "We are eagerly awaiting the YOG. Everyone involved, from hotels to beach vendors, will be able to generate revenue. Now we need to support those at the grassroots level so they can fully benefit," argued Mr. Guèye.
Present at the event, Idrissa Mbengue, director general of an institute based in Saly, echoed this sentiment. According to him, reviving tourism requires constant activity in the resort. "Saly needs activities. These kinds of events need to take place every week to attract people to this town, a true showcase for tourism in Senegal," he stated.
He also called on the young people of Saly to get involved in the preparations for the Youth Olympic Games in order to take advantage of the many opportunities that this event will offer.
After this first stop in Saly, the Compact Yaatal caravan will continue its journey in the Fatick region, where it will accompany a local festival, as part of the promotion of national tourist destinations.
