Accusations de « banditisme » : L'AGETIP contre-attaque et recadre le maire de Dakar
Tensions have escalated between the City of Dakar and the Public Works Execution Agency (AGETIP). Sharply criticized by the capital's mayor, Abass Fall, who denounced development practices akin to "banditry," the Director General of AGETIP, El Hadj Malick Gaye, broke his silence to deliver a firm and measured response.
Faced with accusations leveled against urban redevelopment projects along the Corniche and in the capital, the head of AGETIP dismissed any suggestion of wrongdoing. He emphasized that the agency operates exclusively within a legal framework and under the auspices of Delegated Project Management (MOD) agreements. "AGETIP is an institution recognized for its rigor and adherence to legal procedures. Questioning the legality of our actions demonstrates a lack of understanding of public project management mechanisms," he stressed, categorically refuting any notion of opacity.
Outraged by the virulence of the remarks made by the Dakar mayor, Mr. Gaye called for moving beyond media invective in favor of the common good. "We urge the mayor to exercise restraint and engage in republican dialogue. The management of urban space requires consultation and serenity, not verbal one-upmanship in the public square," concluded the institutional official, reaffirming his agency's commitment to continuing the modernization of infrastructure for the benefit of Dakar's citizens.
