Axe Baba Garage–Mékhé à l'arrêt depuis 2 ans : L'ultimatum des habitants de Touba Kane aux autorités
The inhabitants of Touba Kane, in the commune of Koul (department of Tivaouane), took to the streets this Monday to demand the immediate resumption of the paving work on the Baba Garage–Ngaye Mékhé road, which crosses their village.
This road, approximately 25 kilometers long, has been a major concern for local residents for several years. They claim to have made numerous appeals and alerts to the authorities, hoping to finally see their ordeal come to an end.
Today, there is great disillusionment. According to local residents, the work has been at a standstill since 2024, even though the project was already 55% complete. This interruption is considered incomprehensible given the strategic importance of this route for mobility, the local economy, access to healthcare, and safety. "How can such a major project be abandoned after such a level of progress?" they ask.
The people of Touba Kane maintain that the relevant authorities are fully aware of the situation. They point out that they have issued several warnings and patiently awaited concrete responses, without ever receiving an answer that met their expectations.
Faced with this impasse, they are making a solemn appeal to administrative and political decision-makers. "We ask the local administrative authorities to strongly convey the distress of the people and demand concrete responses. We also call upon the political authorities, at all levels, to take responsibility and work towards the effective resumption of work," they declare.
The residents, however, are keen to emphasize the peaceful nature of their approach. "Our fight is not directed against anyone. It is waged for the development of our territories and for the respect of a legitimate right: the right to have decent infrastructure," they stress.
They summarize their exasperation with a series of striking figures: "Only 25 kilometers. 55% already completed. Two years of standstill. How much longer will we have to wait? We don't want promises anymore. We want action, a clear timetable, and the effective resumption of work."
Determined to get their way, the residents of Touba Kane warn that they will maintain pressure until the construction project is fully completed. They are threatening, in particular, to block trucks that pass through their town to work at local quarries.
For local residents, remaining passive in the face of this prolonged neglect is no longer an option. They consider the paving of the Baba Garage–Ngaye Mékhé road an absolute emergency, a vital necessity, and a non-negotiable civic demand.
