Gamous in Thiès: The main concerns of religious families are explained

A regional development committee (CRD) dedicated to the preparations for the Gamous in Thiès was held this Thursday at the Thiès governorate building, chaired by the deputy governor, Ababacar Sadikh Niang. It brought together representatives of several religious families and communities involved, including the family of Serigne Khadim Lo Gayedel, the family of Chérif Nehma Aïdara, and the family of Serigne Abdoulaye Yakhine, as well as the Diakaye Toucouleur Muslim community.

Safety, health, water and sanitation are at the heart of the concerns

In turn, the various delegations outlined their needs and concerns to ensure the smooth running of their Gamou celebration. Representatives of the general caliphs emphasized the need to strengthen measures related to security, health, hygiene, electricity, water supply, sanitation, and the movement of people and goods.

They therefore called on state services and local authorities to mobilize more in order to allow the faithful to participate in these religious gatherings in the best possible conditions.

The State provides reassurances about the system

Speaking at the event, the deputy governor reassured the organizers regarding the mobilization of the relevant services. Ababacar Sadikh Niang stated that all arrangements related to security, hygiene, sanitation, and other essential sectors would receive particular attention.

The administrative authority noted that the Thiès region regularly hosts numerous religious events, requiring significant mobilization of public services. It assured that the state would work to put in place all the necessary arrangements to guarantee their success.

In this context, cleaning and disinfection operations are planned at the various sites hosting the Gamous. These actions aim in particular to improve the living environment and prevent health risks in order to ensure greater safety for the faithful.
