Grand-Yoff: The municipality allocates 6.75 million FCFA for the new sports season

As the new sports season approaches, the municipality of Grand-Yoff is strengthening its support for local stakeholders this Friday, August 21, 2026. A total of 6.75 million CFA francs was distributed to 19 Sports and Cultural Associations (ASC), Zone 7B, and the Amazones de la commune. This initial phase will be followed by further support measures.

The support is intended to be tangible: each of the 19 ASCs received 250,000 FCFA, for a total of 4.75 million FCFA. Zone 7B, the umbrella organization, and the Amazones de Grand-Yoff each received one million FCFA.

For Bassirou Samb, deputy mayor of Grand-Yoff in charge of youth, this allocation is part of a comprehensive program to support sports facilities. The goal is to provide them with more resources to carry out their activities, while ensuring better conditions for the development of young athletes.

This first phase is just one step. A second phase is planned before the official start of the season. It will notably involve the local sports association as well as other sports organizations that have not yet benefited from this program.

Beyond the financial investment, the focus is also on infrastructure. The Diaguily Bakhayokho stadium, which hosted the ceremony, is among the flagship facilities valued by the municipality. Basketball courts and other local sports areas have also been developed to facilitate access to sports at the neighborhood level.

However, these investments come with a call for collective responsibility. As the competitions approach, the deputy mayor urges players, managers, and supporters to demonstrate fair play and reject violence, especially now that the teams have the opportunity to play at home.

“ The stadium belongs to us, it is up to us to protect it ,” he insisted, calling on all stakeholders to preserve this community working tool.

Through this financial support, upcoming projects, and the modernization of its facilities, the municipality of Grand-Yoff intends to revitalize local sports while empowering its stakeholders. The challenge now lies in converting these resources into sustainable sporting initiatives and ensuring the long-term viability of the infrastructure made available to young people.
