JOJ 2026 : La flamme olympique est arrivé à Dakar !
Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. On this occasion, the President of the Republic addressed a strong message to Senegalese youth, urging them to live up to the trust placed in them just weeks before the global sporting event. "This torch that we have just received has crossed the seas to arrive here," declared the Head of State, emphasizing the historic nature of its arrival in Senegal and Africa.
According to him, after more than 100 years, this is the first time the Youth Olympic Games flame has arrived on African soil. A sign of confidence which, in his view, transcends the borders of Senegal.
"From Johannesburg to Nairobi, from Dakar to Djibouti, all of African youth are looking at you with confidence and pride," he declared to the Senegalese youth.
The Head of State emphasized the responsibility that accompanies this trust. "This trust placed in us, we must earn it," he stressed, before recalling that "Senegal is a country that keeps its promises and that its youth is its greatest asset."
With just weeks to go before the start of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Bassirou Diomaye Faye called on young Senegalese to mobilize and present the best possible image of the country. "More than 2,700 athletes will set foot on Senegalese soil. They will come from more than 206 countries. What they will remember is what you will show: hospitality, energy, and 'teranga' (the Senegalese way of life)," he declared.
"This trust that is placed in us, we must earn it."
For the president, these Games also represent an opportunity to demonstrate that Africa is now capable of hosting major international events. "This torch says that Africa is no longer just watching, that Africa is receiving," he stressed.
The President of the Republic also announced that the Olympic flame will continue its journey through the 14 regions of Senegal. He invited the people to welcome it "with open arms," "with energy," "with hope," and "with pride." "I want those who see it to find in each region of Senegal a youth standing tall, a proud youth, a youth ready to face its destiny, to take its destiny into its own hands, and to rise to this challenge," he declared.
Beyond the sporting competition, the Head of State believes that the legacy of the Youth Olympic Games will have to be measured by the skills acquired by young people and the promotion of the values of Olympism.
"We will all be proud that evening to have demonstrated that through solidarity, we were able to meet the challenge and succeed together for ourselves and for Africa," he concluded.
