Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games – Diamniadio: The DGPU and its partners are mobilizing to offer a better living environment for guests

As part of the preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the General Delegation for the Promotion of Urban Centers in Diamniadio and Lac Rose (DGPU) organized a community investment and cleanup day for the Diamniadio urban center on Saturday, October 24. This major community-building event, aimed at providing a clean, modern, innovative, dynamic, and festive environment for guests, was launched by the DGPU's Director General, Moussa Diop, in the presence of all partners.

An exceptional mobilization to give the hub a new look

The competitions for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be held from October 31 to November 13 at three venues: Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly (Mbour). The Diamniadio Urban Hub is the main sports venue and the Olympic territory for the Dakar 2026 YOG, as it hosts the majority of competition and accommodation venues, including the equestrian sports center, the Dakar Arena, the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, the exhibition center, and the Radisson Hotel, among others. To welcome its guests in a clean, modern, innovative, dynamic, and festive setting, the General Delegation for the Promotion of the Diamniadio and Lac Rose Urban Hubs (DGPU) initiated this event.

On site, the DGPU and its partners—Senegindia, Envol, Telyum, Sotracom, CFAO Senegal, Cadre de Vie, Sonaged, among others—all mobilized to take over the area and meet this major challenge. They deployed significant resources: heavy machinery, dump trucks, wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, brooms, and more. Here, the Director General of the DGPU, dressed in athletic wear, wheelbarrow, shovel, and broom in hand, officially launched the project in front of the Courtyard Hotel.

According to Maître Moussa Diop, this day dedicated to cleaning and weeding the Diamniadio urban center aims to improve the living environment and enhance the attractiveness of the surroundings, while mobilizing the community and all partners, in view of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. "In my capacity as General Delegate, I decided to come and support my colleagues and partners in this cleaning work," he explained.

Delighted with this impressive turnout, the General Delegate expressed his gratitude to all the partners who, in his words, spared no effort to ensure the day's complete success. He also invited other businesses to establish themselves and invest in Diamniadio.

After kicking off the day's events, Mr. Moussa Diop took his leave to join the President of the Republic, who was inaugurating the 15th fire brigade company in Diamniadio that day. This new facility, he said, came at just the right time. He maintained that "Senegal is hosting the Youth Olympic Games, and things can only happen under conditions of safety and prevention."

It should be noted that the DGPU is responsible for land and all investment in the Diamniadio and Lac Rose development zones. Its mission is the development, planning, and construction of roads and various networks in both zones.

In this capacity, the new general delegate, after thanking the Head of State for the trust placed in him, reassured that this challenge will be met with the team that is with him and that is doing an extraordinary job.
