Lutte contre l'insécurité : Makhtar Cissé annonce le maintien à long terme des patrouilles mixtes Police-Gendarmerie
Interior Minister Makhtar Cissé oversaw a large-scale joint security operation between the National Police and the National Gendarmerie on Monday night, deployed in several neighborhoods of Dakar, including Grand Yoff, Gadaye, Diamalaye, and Yoff. At the conclusion of the operation, the minister delivered a message of firmness and gratitude to the defense and security forces, announcing that this type of intervention would now be a regular occurrence.
The operation mobilized considerable human and material resources. "This combined operation between the gendarmerie and police forces mobilized a significant number of personnel, approximately 650 men and women, as well as over a hundred vehicles, drones, and canine units," explained Makhtar Cissé. The minister specified that the canine units (dogs) deployed in the field helped to complete the operation aimed at "providing greater security for our citizens."
Unlike an isolated intervention, the minister emphasized the long-term nature of this security strategy. "This operation is not a one-off; it is intended to be a permanent feature because security is a crucial need for all our citizens," he stated, adding that other combined operations will follow, including those conducted without his personal presence on the ground.
The Minister of the Interior and Public Security stressed the need for public involvement in security efforts. "Collaboration means complying with checks, it means assisting them even during checks through a positive attitude, by providing information and intelligence, because security is everyone's business," he urged, reminding everyone that each citizen must feel concerned and avoid aiding criminals, "whatever the circumstances."
Taking advantage of this outing, the Minister of the Interior also addressed a problem observed on the ground: the chaotic occupation of public space, particularly the maritime public domain. "The planning of space is a prerequisite for security because order is the prerequisite for security. And if space is poorly planned, poorly used, we have problems with addressing, we even have traffic problems in certain neighborhoods," he explained, specifying that this issue went beyond the sole purview of his ministry and would require consultation with the departments of Urban Planning and the Environment.
He stressed that this poor occupation of space could directly compromise the actions of the security forces. "This negatively impacts the performance of the defense and security forces who, despite their bravery, courage and professionalism, sometimes fail to access certain areas," he lamented.
