Malaw d'Or 2026: Serigne Ndiaye rewarded for his performance at the head of Promovilles

Malaw d’Or 2026 : Serigne Ndiaye récompensé pour ses performances à la tête du Promovilles

Serigne Ndiaye, the national coordinator of the Urban Modernization Program (Promovilles), was honored at the 2026 Malaw d'Or awards ceremony, held this Saturday, September 26, in Thiès. He was among the ten individuals selected for this distinction, from a list comprised of nine representatives from the private sector and one from the public sector. Serigne Ndiaye received the "Malaw d'Or for Patriotism and Citizenship."

This recognition comes as Promovilles continues to implement several development and infrastructure projects in various local communities across Senegal. The award is presented as recognition of the work accomplished in leading and accelerating these projects.

After receiving his trophy, Serigne Ndiaye gave thanks to God and expressed his gratitude to the authorities and the Promovilles teams. "I feel a sense of pride in this distinction. I am very happy and I thank first and foremost President Bassirou Diomaye Faye who placed his trust in me by appointing me to head Promovilles," said Mr. Ndiaye.

He also praised the support of the Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, before congratulating the Promovilles staff. "I thank and congratulate the Promovilles teams who also contributed to this success," he added.

A distinction perceived as an additional responsibility

For Serigne Ndiaye, this distinction goes far beyond a simple reward. Above all, it represents an additional responsibility and a source of motivation to stay the course and further improve performance. "This distinction represents a burden for me. When you are honored for your work, you no longer have the right to give up, to back down, or to do less than before," he declared.

The national coordinator of Promovilles intends to use this recognition to further accelerate the execution of projects and improve results.

"This distinction will allow us to redouble our efforts, to perform better and to have high rates in the execution of our projects. We will do everything to deliver all projects as quickly as possible," he promised.

"We have restarted all the projects that were experiencing difficulties."

Looking back on his record at the head of Promovilles, Serigne Ndiaye explained that part of his work consisted of reviving projects facing difficulties.

"Upon my arrival at Promovilles, we restarted all the projects that were experiencing difficulties. Then, we accelerated the work," he stated.

According to him, this momentum has enabled the completion of several projects and the launch of new ones. Serigne Ndiaye also mentioned the reforms undertaken within Promovilles, with a focus on extending interventions to secondary cities. These projects aim in particular to connect industrial platforms, open up certain neighborhoods and schools, and improve access to hospitals, universities, and other public infrastructure.

"Slogans won't develop Senegal."

Taking advantage of this platform, Serigne Ndiaye called on public sector leaders to focus more on action and results. "It is not slogans or speeches that will develop Senegal, but only work well done," he declared.

He also believes that public officials need to be more present on the ground to monitor the progress of projects. "The role of a minister or director is not to stay in their office signing documents and giving orders. They must also go out into the field to inquire about the progress of projects," he argued.

Through this distinction, Serigne Ndiaye says he wants to turn the work accomplished into a renewed commitment to accelerate urban modernization projects and improve their impact in local communities.
