Matam: La première dame Absa Faye charme la population en pulaar et équipe le service de pédiatrie / néonatalogie
On September 17th, Matam received a significant donation of medical equipment for the pediatric and neonatal departments of the hospitals in Matam and Ourossogui. This donation from the Senegal Solidarity Foundation, consisting of eight (8) incubators, eight (8) heated tables, and medical cribs, will bolster patient care.
Through this initiative, Ms. Absa Faye demonstrates her commitment to supporting the Ministry of Health in the development of public health policies. "The first moments of life are sometimes fragile. For a premature infant, immediate access to an incubator and appropriate care is often crucial," she emphasized.
Vital support in a region where the needs are immense. Every year, 700 newborns are cared for in Ourossogui and 576 in Matam. In 2025, 227 neonatal deaths were recorded, 169 of which occurred during the first seven days of life, with prematurity being the leading cause at 45.5% of cases.
Her presence and commitment were unanimously praised by elected officials and the public. Beyond the donated equipment, the First Lady received a standing ovation from the very beginning of her speech, addressing the audience in her native language, Pulaar.
