Mise en œuvre de la loi d’orientation : À Ziguinchor, les personnes handicapées expriment l’espoir
In Ziguinchor, the voice of people with disabilities was heard at the beginning of this week, led by El Hadj Omar Diaw, president of the Patriotic and Republican Movement of People Living with Disabilities. In a solemn declaration, he reiterated the urgent need to finally implement the social policy law, passed nearly ten years ago but still awaiting its implementing decrees.
“We express our unwavering support for His Excellency the President of the Republic,” El Hadj Omar Diaw declared to his colleagues. He welcomed the recent integration of 25,000 disabled individuals holding the Equal Opportunities Card into the Family Security Scholarship Program, a measure he considers a major step forward.
However, the association leader stressed the need to go further: “We are grateful to the President for his commitment to reducing inequalities and improving the living conditions of Senegalese people. But as long as the implementing decrees are not published, the suffering of disabled people remains a daily reality.”
In Ziguinchor, expectations are immense. Associations hope that by the end of the year, the legislation will finally be adopted, paving the way for true social equity. For El Hadj Omar Diaw, this fight is about dignity: "We want all the poor, whether disabled or not, to be able to benefit from the family security grant."
