« Nguenté Li » : Cheikh Makhtar Koné explique la particularité du Gamou de Ndiassane
The Gamou of Ndiassane, commonly known as "Nguenté Li," is celebrated this Tuesday in an atmosphere imbued with religious fervor and spirituality. One particularity distinguishes this celebration from other major religious centers in Senegal: the Kounta family of Ndiassane organizes its Gamou a week after Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
This specificity sometimes raises questions among some faithful and observers, particularly regarding the essence and meaning of the "Nguenté Li".
To better understand the reasons for this shift in the religious calendar, Cheikh Makhtar Koné, in charge of culture and communication for the Kounta family of Ndiassane, sheds light on the origin and scope of this celebration.
According to him, the "Nguenté Li" is part of a tradition specific to Ndiassane and finds its explanation in the history and spiritual heritage of the Kounta family. It thus allows the community to perpetuate a religious practice passed down from generation to generation, while reaffirming its attachment to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
This celebration is therefore an important moment in the religious calendar of Ndiassane, marked by prayers, religious teachings, communion between the faithful and the transmission of Islamic values.
