Numérique : l’UCAD et Sonatel s’allient pour mieux préparer les diplômés au marché du travail
Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) and the Sonatel consortium signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, July 2nd, aimed at strengthening training in digital professions and accelerating the university's digital transformation. Through this alliance, the two partners intend to better align their curricula with the needs of the job market.
Beyond strengthening connectivity, the convention paves the way for cooperation in several strategic areas, including cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data, artificial intelligence, mobile payments, smart buildings and the deployment of network coverage infrastructure.
The partnership also aims to strengthen ties between the university and the business world. Training, research, innovation, graduate employment, and the provision of computers to students and staff are among the main commitments of both parties.
Modernization of services and skills development
In concrete terms, the agreement is structured around two major axes. The first concerns the modernization of UCAD's services through the strengthening of connectivity, the interconnection of networks, the hosting of digital platforms as well as the deployment of digital solutions offered by the various subsidiaries of the Sonatel group, notably Orange Money and Orange Bank Africa.
The second focus is on developing digital skills. Sonatel intends to support the university in adapting its curricula to technological developments, particularly in the fields of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
For Sonatel's CEO, Brelotte Ba, the main challenge lies in skills development. "Digital skills are evolving rapidly. It's about aligning university programs with the company's needs," he explained. To this end, the group will leverage the Orange Digital Center and its network of international partners to offer specialized training and globally recognized certifications.
A lever for national transformation
The rector of UCAD, Alioune Badara Kandji, sees this agreement as a way to put the university's scientific expertise at the service of Senegal's technological challenges. According to him, this cooperation will contribute to strengthening research, innovation, and training while supporting national digital policy.
Beyond the two institutions, the signatories share a common ambition: to make this partnership a lever to accelerate the digital transformation of Senegal through better talent training and a university more connected to the needs of the economy.
