ONAS : l’Association des femmes mobilise pour une collecte de 150 poches de sang
The National Association of Women of the National Sanitation Office of Senegal (ONAS) organized a blood donation day on Friday, October 30, 2026. For this fourth edition, the association aims to provide 150 units of blood to the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) to support people in need of regular transfusions.
Indeed, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this initiative aims to contribute to the availability of blood products in healthcare facilities. The association's president, Seynabou Diop, specifically mentioned the needs of women experiencing hemorrhaging during childbirth, as well as those of children with sickle cell disease who require regular transfusions. "There are women who need them. Women in labor lose a lot of blood. And there are also children with sickle cell disease who need blood every three months," she explained, adding that "sometimes, when they go to the transfusion center, there's a shortage, and the child becomes weakened," she emphasized.
Present at the event, the Director General of ONAS, Sény Diène, congratulated the association for this initiative, which he considers an essential act of solidarity. "Blood is fundamental to health. We often witness blood loss in cases of hemorrhage or other emergencies, which sometimes leads to loss of life," he reminded everyone, explaining his presence by his desire to support and encourage the organizers.
