This is a groundbreaking initiative. On September 15th at the Museum of Black Civilizations, the Association of Cultural Press of Senegal (APCS) and the General Directorate of the National Police joined forces to reveal the most unexpected side of our security forces. Through a joint press conference, the two institutions officially presented the "Cultural Police" project. The idea is as simple as it is audacious, demonstrating that behind the police cap and shield, there is a microphone, a paintbrush, a pen, or some other tool.
Through “Cultural Police”, the APCS and the National Police want to highlight the artistic and cultural talents that lie dormant within their ranks: musicians, singers, painters, visual artists, writers…
Far from being a mere publicity stunt, the project aims to strengthen the bond between the police, cultural stakeholders, and the general public. It seeks to reveal a more human, more approachable side of the institution through the universal language of art and culture.
A great tribute to Laye Bamba Seck
The project will culminate in a major cultural event on October 10th. The program includes a musical performance, a visual arts exhibition, a literary space, and, most importantly, a tribute ceremony to Laye Bamba Seck. A former police officer and iconic figure in Senegalese music, Laye Bamba Seck is also the father of the diva Coumba Gawlo Seck. This event, for which Coumba Gawlo is the patron, will be attended by leading figures in Senegalese music such as Oumar Pène, Ismaël Lô, and many others.
Speaking to Seneweb, the president of the Association of Cultural Press of Senegal, Alioune Badara Mané, the artistic director, Sira Touré and the representative of cultural actors, Pape Faye, consider that this project celebrates the perfect link between these two worlds: the rigor of service and the freedom of creation.
