Strengthening of technical facilities in Ziguinchor: The Georges Nioucky Military Hospital acquires a scanner

The Georges Nioucky Military Hospital in Ziguinchor, named after Colonel Dr. Georges Nioucky, inaugurated a medical imaging center equipped with a state-of-the-art scanner on October 15, 2026. This investment is expected to improve patient diagnosis and care, benefiting military personnel, their families, and the local population in the southern region.

The Georges Nioucky Military Hospital in Ziguinchor is strengthening its diagnostic capabilities. The Director of the Armed Forces Health Service, Colonel Abdou Razak Ndiaye, inaugurated the new medical imaging center at the Colonel Georges Boissy military camp, in the presence of military and administrative authorities and health officials.

Looking back on the evolution of the establishment, which went from a garrison medical center to a joint medical center, then to a leading military hospital, he recalled the values that underpin the commitment of the military: "to protect, preserve, save and serve".

The new scanner makes it easier to detect complex fractures, internal bleeding, and head injuries. It also helps guide certain specialized medical procedures. "This new imaging technology is a source of light for improving the prognosis, survival, and quality of life of our patients and wounded," said Colonel Abdou Razak Ndiaye.

He specified that the construction of the center and the acquisition of the equipment were entirely financed thanks to the commitment of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Omar Wade. He welcomed this contribution to healthcare equity and access to specialized care in the region.

For the hospital director, Lieutenant-Colonel Assane Diatta, this acquisition fulfills an ambition pursued for several years. It should improve the accuracy of diagnoses, expedite patient care, and reduce medical evacuations to other facilities.

To ensure optimal use of the scanner, he emphasized the importance of ongoing training for medical and technical staff. Among the projects under consideration is the construction of a hemodialysis center to expand the range of specialized care available.

In closing the ceremony, Medical Colonel Abdou Razak Ndiaye recalled the nobility of the mission of healthcare professionals.

With this equipment, the hospital intends to consolidate its role in the regional health system and improve access to specialized care in Casamance.
