“We must be honest. Let’s tell the people the truth! Let’s stop lying to the people! It is these people who put us here, who make us work, and who pay us to work for them, to work in truth. Truth is a good thing for those who lead and who apply it. That is true blessing and true success.” These words were spoken by MP Tahirou Sarr during his address following the General Policy Statement (DPG) delivered by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô this Tuesday before the National Assembly.
Indeed, in his speech, he condemned the rise of rhetoric stigmatizing foreigners in Senegal. According to him, this is contrary to our values.
Tahirou Sarr criticized this speech: "There are problems with what is happening in Senegal. These are laws that were passed for the security and the interests of the Senegalese people, but nobody is applying them. That is the reality in Senegal. And we must recognize it."
"To come here and call people xenophobic. That's a lack of arguments," he said to the prime minister, preemptively responding to potential criticism.
Tahirou Sarr called on the government to hold a debate on this issue. "You are a supposedly responsible government, so raise the issue so we can discuss it," he said.
