Thiès: The welcome planned for President Diomaye Faye risks being disrupted by the road transport workers' strike.

Thiès : L'accueil réservé au Président Diomaye Faye risque d'être perturbé par la grève des transporteurs routiers

Expected in Thiès this Monday afternoon for the official launch of National Youth Week at the Lat Dior stadium, Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye risks having his reception disrupted by the 72-hour strike called today by the Federation of Road Transport Unions of Senegal.

According to some transporters who have already received advance payments, "the delegations mobilized to reach the site and give the head of state a welcome worthy of his rank risk failing to show up, due to the widely followed call in Thiès, to the point of paralyzing the transport sector."

Indeed, severe disruptions were noted on urban and interurban networks, with people, overcome by dismay, unable to attend to their needs peacefully, experiencing great difficulty getting to their workplaces.

At the Thiès bus station, practically closed, no departures were recorded, paralyzing the transport sector and much to the dismay of the many commuters who had made the trip. To reach Dakar without disruption, the only alternative in the city with two bus stations today is the 96 Tata buses, which have not heeded the strike order, unlike their AFTU counterparts in the capital. There are also, in the Grand Standing neighborhood, the Dakar Dem Dikk buses, which unfortunately operate in unlimited numbers.

The leaders of the regional drivers' association, who are demanding that their demands be properly addressed, are pleased with the complete adherence to their call to action. Only unlicensed transport vehicles (Allô Dakar, commonly known as War Gaïndé) and "Jakarta" motorcycle taxis are attempting to fill the gap.
