Tivaouane : Le ministre de l’intérieur prêche contre la montée des discours xénophobes
In Tivaouane, the Minister of the Interior forcefully reiterated the directives of the President of the Republic, based on the wise counsel of the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. At the heart of his address during the official Gamou ceremony this Tuesday, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé delivered the Head of State's urgent appeal to the nation, and in particular to the youth, to "reclaim the intangible heritage and legacy of Senegal's great scholars, such as Cheikh Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy."
Faced with current difficulties, the executive branch reiterates that Senegal's greatest challenge remains economic, urging citizens to draw upon the example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for "the patience and dignity necessary to overcome these difficult times."
Speaking out firmly against the rise of intolerant rhetoric, the minister emphasized that any discourse contrary to the fundamental values of Teranga (hospitality) must be banished from the public sphere. "Senegal is a land of hospitality for anyone who respects our laws and regulations. But we must also closely monitor our borders. Let's not forget that there are more than 2 million Senegalese in the diaspora," stated Makhtar Cissé, who also reminded everyone that Islam is a religion of tolerance.
“The world’s largest Muslim community is a community of emigrants. The Prophet Muhammad left Mecca to seek refuge in Medina with his community. Our prophet was an emigrant, so we must not ostracize the emigrants who live among us,” he urged, stressing that no exclusion could be tolerated towards foreigners established in Senegal, as long as they respect the laws and regulations of the Republic.
However, the head of internal security clarified that this culture of hospitality and Islamic tolerance that characterizes Senegal will not come at the expense of territorial sovereignty. He affirmed, quoting the President of the Republic, that the authority of the State and national cohesion remain strictly "non-negotiable."
He commended the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) for their efforts. He urged them to strengthen border surveillance and increase their vigilance to guarantee the country's internal security.
